On February 17, 2022, WNBA star Brittney Griner was detained in Moscow, Russia, after airport officials found cannabis vape cartridges in her luggage. While she still remains in Russian custody, the WNBA has stood by BG and advocated for her safe and imminent return home.

Brittney Griner is one of the most decorated players in the WNBA.
