USAWP’s Ashleigh Johnson Makes Waves for Diversity in Water Polo

Despite Team USA’s heartbreaking loss in the bronze medal game, goalkeeper Ashleigh Johnson’s influence on water polo in America extends far beyond the pool. As the only Black woman on the team, Johnson serves as a role model and shines VISibility on the sport for young Black girls who want to join water polo.

In a battle for the bronze medal on Saturday, Team USA Water Polo played a tight game versus the Netherlands. Team USA had a 10-7 lead with about four minutes left, but the Netherlands rallied to make it 10-10 with nine seconds to go.
