We’re roughly halfway through the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics—and the competition is not disappointing.
From first-time stars to veterans holding space on the podium, this Olympic Games has a storyline for everyone. And, to make the Games even more exciting, the 2026 Olympic Games have a record-setting 50 events for women.
With 47% of this year’s Olympians being women, we’re seeing what progress looks like on the snow or ice. These women are shaping that progress.
Storylines from Week One
Breezy’s Breezy Run. Team USA skier Breezy Johnson set a blistering pace downhill to bring home America’s first gold medal of the Games. And she did it on the same course where her Olympic dreams had been dashed when she crashed four years before, proving that you can knock her down, but you can’t knock her out. ICYMI: Breezy and her boyfriend, Connor Watkins, also got engaged after her super-G race on February 12th.
Cory’s Office on Ice. Team USA curler Cory Christensen works from 9-5 as a lab tech. When she isn’t winning Olympic medals, that is. Her silver medal in mixed doubles with teammate Korey Dropkin not only made her the first American woman to medal in curling. It also showed the world that women athletes can have careers both within and without of sport.
