When Maryland forward Josie Hollamon fired in the game-winning goal against No. 10 Iowa, on November 10th, 2025, she barely had time to celebrate before her younger sister Jordyn was right there next to her, celebrating alongside her. It was the third time this season both sisters had scored in the same game, which is becoming a recurring moment that’s come to define No. 12 Maryland’s rise this fall.

For Josie and Jordyn, field hockey isn’t just a sport. It’s their shared language. Raised in Delaware, the Hollamon sisters have been pushing each other since backyard practices turned into state titles. These sisters practically grew up with field hockey in their blood.

Before arriving in College Park, both sisters starred at Delmar High School, one of Delaware’s most dominant field hockey programs. Together, they helped continue the school’s remarkable run of consecutive state championships, with Josie serving as a key leader and Jordyn earning Division II Player of the Year honors in 2023. Their years of training and competition at Delmar laid the foundation for the connection they now bring to Maryland.

Josie has started playing because her family before her—her grandmother, mother, and aunts—played the sport. These family ties began Josie and Jordyn’s trajectory.

Together, the Holloman sisters represent a blend of experience and new energy and are driving the Terrapins through one of the most competitive seasons in the Big Ten.

“We grew up in the backyard playing together.”

Meet the Sisters

Josie is a senior forward and team leader that sets the tone with composure and precision. Jordyn is a freshman defender who brings youthful fire and defensive grit. Their contrasting styles mirror the balance that defines elite teams. As a freshman, Jordyn has made an immediate impact. In Maryland’s 3-1 win over Penn State, both sisters scored. Josie converted off a penalty corner, and Jordyn later netted a goal in the third quarter.

That performance wasn’t an outlier. Earlier in the season, Jordyn scored twice in her collegiate debut against Villanova, earning Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors. Head coach Missy Meharg praised the younger Hollamon’s tenacity after the match, telling Testudo Times, "Jordyn’s a brute, It matters to her… you want her to shoot, because she’ll shoot through people.” Jordyn's early success has mirrored her sister’s poise up front, giving Maryland a one-two punch rooted in both chemistry and confidence.

Watching her sister excel at the collegiate level has been special for Josie. “We grew up in the backyard playing together,” she told The Diamondback. “And now just to see her out here at the Division I level, making stuff happen for us—I mean, she is doing a great job.”

Josie and Jordyn’s bond is equal parts accountability and trust, the same qualities that define elite teams. Whether it’s celebrating goals, communicating through the midfield, or locking down in tight defensive moments, the Hollamons’ chemistry radiates across the field.

Their connection extends far beyond the field. Off the turf, the sisters lean on each other to manage the balance between athletics, academics, and life as student-athletes. Head coach Missy Meharg has seen the dynamic between siblings before, but told The Diamondback that Josie and Jordyn “really encourage each other,” adding that the pair’s relationship brings an uplifting energy to the program. That shared drive has become a cornerstone of Maryland’s culture this season, blending sibling motivation with the family atmosphere that Meharg has built over nearly four decades leading the team.

While Josie will soon pass the torch to her younger sister, she knows the program, and their family legacy are in good hands.

As Maryland eyes another NCAA Tournament run, the sisters’ story adds a human layer to the program’s success, one rooted in family, tradition, and relentless belief in one another. Josie and Jordyn have turned a childhood rivalry into a collegiate partnership that embodies the heart of Maryland field hockey.
