How to Navigate Stereotypes in Sport

Stereotyping is common, but it is never okay. Many young athletes experience stereotyping related to their race, sexuality, or even the sport they play. Let’s debunk these stereotypes as we strive to create a comfortable environment for all on and off of the field.

By definition, a stereotype is a fixed idea that people have about a group or person that is mostly inaccurate or untrue. Stereotypes are often associated with race, sexuality or even economics, but they are prevalent in sports as well.
