Salt has become controversial as a result of high levels of salt intake via processed foods in the general population. But as athletes, salt is key for training and recovery. Salt guidelines can be confusing—particularly for athletes who may need more than the general population. As a registered dietitian and VIS Expert, I find that a lot of athletes are trying to eat so “healthy” that they end up eating too little salt.
